Massage Program The 550 Massage Program is designed to cater to all styles of
learning. All classes including the Anatomy & Physiology are as hands on
as possible. The Pathology classes coincide with the anatomy. There will be
three exams for the anatomy class. Students will be expected to perform
assessment massages through out the course for evaluation purposes. The eight
national exam prep classes are taken at the completion of the program as a
review of all the material covered. Students usually apply to take the nationals
around this time while the information is still fresh in their minds. Swedish Relaxation
Massage - 10 classes The first class is an Intro to
M.I.C.C and to Swedish Massage. In this intro class, students will learn the
sequence of the Swedish Massage strokes and practice these strokes on each
other. In the next eight classes students will learn about draping the
client, use of oil, psychological and legal factors of a client/therapist
relationship, ethics and contraindications, how to create the right
environment and mood for both therapist and client, along with all aspects to
help the student give a wonderful Swedish massage. Chair Massage - 1
class Students will learn the basic and
unique approach to chair massage including: purchasing a chair, chair
adjustment and client positioning, applying massage techniques to the clothed
client, and marketing on site chair massage. Pregnancy - 1 class Learn about this truly loving and
pampering massage that benefits not only the pregnant woman but the developing
infant as well. This class also includes labor and postpartum massage. Infant Massage - 1
class Students will learn how to
massage an infant and learn why massage is so vital for a growing child. As a
result of this nurturing touch a strong, nurturing bond is created for parent
and child. Deep Tissue Massage - 10 classes Students will learn how to apply
a straight forward approach to deep tissue massage by using cross fiber and
circular friction on problem areas of the body. Specific skills and tools of
deep work will be taught such as the use of elbows, forearms, knuckles,
thumbs and fingers using varied pressure. In all ten classes-students will
concentrate on different sections of the body. Students will review the
muscle groups in each area, how to palpate, lengthen and release muscle
restrictions. Sports Massage - 6
classes Students will study the
kinesiology related to muscles and their anatomy. Pre-event warm-up and
post-event cool-down massages to aid athletes in preparing for and recovering
from a sporting event. Medical massage applied to common sports injuries,
preventing injuries, enhancing performance and therapeutic recovery for
athletes. Sports nutrition to help the massage therapist to have the health,
endurance, strength, and other qualities necessary for a physically demanding
profession. Hydrotherapy 1
Class Classification of treatments
regarding variances in temperature used in hydrotherapy, cryotherapy,
Thermotherapy Contraindications. Head Neck &
Shoulder Massage 1 Class Unique combination. Swedish &
Sports massage techniques in the head, neck & shoulders area. How to
sequence & integrate into full body massage. Marketing - 1 class Students learn how to promote
their practice, develop and maintain clientele, as well as personalize your
massage services. Business - 2 classes Learn how to manage and market a
massage business. Material will include marketing, taxes, insurance,
accounting and general professional business practices. Ethics- 1 class Covering both personal and
professional ethics, students will learn the fundamentals of professionalism,
essential to the practice of massage therapy. Meridians 2 Classes Chinese medicine is based on
energy pathways known as meridians. Learn how each meridian is linked to specific
organs and body parts and how to balance the body's engergy flow. Shiatsu - 2 Classes Shiatsu is a Japanese word that
means pressure("atsu") with fingers. Shiatsu is an
oriental(eastern) therapy of physical and energy rebalance through meridians.
There are different forms of Shiatsu just like there are different forms of
massage. Most Shiatsu treatments are done on a floor mat with the client
fully clothed. Five Element Theory -
1 Class According to traditional Chinese
medicine, the universe is composed of five elements; Fire, Earth, Metal,
Water, and Wood. The human body is believed to also be composed of these Five
Elements. Each element is associated with different organs, meridians, and
characteristics. Myofascial Release- 1
Class This class is an introduction to
myofascial techniques as gentle , non-invasive, manipulative techniques,
which the therapist can use to detect and correct imbalances in the fascial
system of the body. Trigger Point - 2
Classes General knowledge of Trigger
Point therapy and a discussion of the difference between Trigger Point work
and Counter strain/strain work. Students will learn about acute trigger
points VS Latent Points, how to work with referred pain pattern, chronic
muscle issues, and addressing Trigger Point on those area. Stress & Health -
1 Class Good, bad and ugly stress affects
our health and can create illness. Discuss the stress response including Hans
Seyle’s “GAS” and neuro-endocrine involvement as well as the relaxation
response. Learn about the psychological implications. Integrative Massage 6
- Casses Integrating various techniques of
massage and body work with the elements of fire, earth & spirit creating
a well rounded esthetic the natural way! Intensive Focus - 3
Classes The goal of this class is to “put
it all together” to deliver a safe, comfortable, therapeutic client massage.
Building upon previous massage knowledge. Alternative
Modalities – 1 Class “Bodywork” or body centered
therapies uniquely blend the mind, body, and spirit using techniques that are
different than traditional Swedish massage. Explore this maze of
complimentary massage while learning about key bodywork modalities of touch
considerations for massage and healthy coping techniques for both the client
and massage therapist. Introduction to Hot
Rocks – 1 Class Learn a unique massage healing
method using hot lava stones. Lava rock brings the healing element of the
earth that creates harmony and balance, releasing toxins and stress from the
body. You will learn how to integrate Hot Stones into your massage. Cancer/Lymph – 1
Class Studies are showing the positive
impact of massage on the cancer client, but how do we keep the client safe?
Learn the importance of cancer and lymph massage and the “do’s & dont’s”
in this introductory class. Aromatherapy/Essential
Oils – 1 Class You will learn the properties of
the ten most popular oils. How to combine oils in preperation for carrier oil
fusion. An introduction to kinesthetic testing for yourself & your
client. Also the energetic properties of essential oils & how to infuse a
fresh herb, such as basil, into a blend of carrier oils. Anatomy &
Physiology – 25 Classes This course focus on what a
massage therapist needs to know. Classes cover in detail each body system from
the anatomical and Physiological perspectives. There is a significant amount
of class time devoted to the theoretical and practical learning of the bones
and attachment sites, as well as the muscles, their origins and insertions
and actions. Pathology – 10
Classes Students will learn the pathology
of the body and the systems. Classes coincide with the anatomy. National Exam Prep –
8 Classes Designed to prepare you to take
the most important exam(NCETMB) in your career as a massage therapist an body
worker. CPR Training –
Certification Required We offer CPR Training through out
the year for students. We also offer recertification for those who need it. |
